| Randolph County Health Department 2006 Report - Leading Causes of Death | |||
|
|
"Chronic diseases—such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. These diseases account for 7 of every 10 deaths and affect the quality of life of 90 million Americans. Although chronic diseases are among the most common and costly health problems, they are also among the most preventable. Adopting healthy behaviors such as eating nutritious foods, being physically active, and avoiding tobacco use can prevent or control the devastating effects of these diseases." - Centers for Disease Control Deaths 1993 - 2003 As reflected in the graph above, Randolph County has higher death rates for heart disease, cancer, diabetes and COPD than Missouri as a whole, but a lower rate for stroke and unintentional injuries. Cancer Death Rate Trend The local area United Way provides funding for cancer screening and wellness education. Diabetes Death Rate Trend Rates of death due to diabetes are on the decline after reaching an all-time high from 2000-2002. This overall decrease in Randolph county may be partially attributed to increasing awareness and early diagnosis and treatment. Please refer to the links on the left for the Table of Contents.
