Workplace Wellness Tips from Randolph County Health Department

Randolph County Health Department
Participates in Cardiovascular Worksite Wellness Program

Randolph County Health Department has been participating as a lead agency for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services' statewide Cardiovascular WorkSite Inventory Program. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services' Cardiovascular Health Program recently received national attention at the 16th annual Conference for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control in Atlanta, GA for its unique approach of establishing a statewide worksite program through partnerships with local public health agencies.

According to Barbara Dunaway, RN, Community Health Services Director for Randolph County Health Department ten local businesses which included manufacturers, health care providers, educational facilities, and financial corporations with 50 or more employees have participated. The cardiovascular program's unique approach has been to support heart healthy lifestyles through policy and environmental changes to improve physical activity, good nutrition and smoke free opportunities for Missourians in their work.

Dunaway says "The majority of us spend the greater part of our day at work leaving us with little or no time to focus on our health needs. Employers can benefit by investing some time and money into worksite wellness with return investments of lower health care costs, reduced absenteeism, higher productivity, reduced use of health care benefits, reduced worker's compensation and disability management costs, fewer injuries and increased morale."

The Randolph County Health Department is assisting other Northeast Missouri Health Departments including Livingston, Grundy, Linn, Macon, Putnam, and Mercer to conduct the worksite inventory program with a business in their county.

Participation in the program is voluntary and information confidential according to the standards established by the Missouri Department of Health. If your worksite would like to participate in this unique program call Barbara Dunaway at the Randolph County Health Department for more information (660) 263-6643.

Randolph County Health Department is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All services provided on a non-discriminatory basis without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, handicap or age.
