Skin Cancer FactsMay is National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Have you viewed CDC's website lately for skin cancer resources? There are a lot of resources and information available through the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion - Cancer Prevention and Control website for Skin Cancer Prevention at: http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/nscpep/index.htm

Two recent samples specific to school curricula are:

1) The CDC has recently issued a report "Guidelines for School Programs To Prevent Skin Cancer" This is available for viewing at their website of: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5104a1.htm

2) CDC sponsors an annual Disease Detectives event to provide high school students an opportunity to hone their skills as science sleuths by learning the scientific method employed by epidemiologists (disease detectives). This year's winners selected skin cancer as their topic. You can view their module, designed by and for high school students, at: http://www.cdc.gov/excite/skincancer/index.htm

Explore the site, there are some very good resources available at no cost. You can view materials and order online at http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/publica-online.htm#skin
